Is the price from the website the actual price of repairs?
Our automatic response page does not constitute a firm price quote. The actual repair cost is contingent upon our actual inspection and evaluation of your equipment. The price range is only an approximation

What is American Camera's warranty policy?
Our warranty period is six months and covers only equipment that we have done major repairs or overhauled. Within this period, we will re-repair your equipment at no further cost. American Camera reserves the option of refunding the initial repair cost instead of repairing the equipment. This warranty does no cover any damage to your equipment as a result of impact, abuse, liquid or sand damage, or any disrepair unrelated to our initial service. The original invoice must accompany all warrantee claims.

Does American Camera service older or antique equipment?
Absolutely. Our technicians are experts at restoring old equipment to perfect working order. However, repairs on older equipment are subject to parts availability. If parts are not available our only option is to manufacture the part ourselves and this may not always be possible. Just bring in your equipment and we'll see what we can do about it.

Does American Camera buy equipment that cannot be repaired?
If we judge equipment to be beyond economical repair, or when estimates are refused, we may make offers to buy the equipment for salvage parts.

How long does my repair take?
Our turnover rate is approximately 1-2 weeks. However, repairs that require us to order parts from the manufacturer may entail a longer repair period.

Is Rush Service available?
We offer rush service for an additional 50% of repair costs. This fee will be for overnight repairs. This fee will not be charged unless repairs are completed.

What does a minor repair entail?
A minor repair involves the repair of a specific area in camera that is otherwise in good condition. We will also provide any necessary cleaning and adjustment

What does a major repair entail?
A camera requires major repair if it has more than one problem that needs to be fixed. Major repairs include the replacement of broken parts or units; replacement of light shield and foam around the back door and mirror; cleaning and adjustment of the entire camera.

What is maintenance repair?
Maintenance repair is recommended for your equipment after prolonged periods of heavy usage or storage. Under heavy use, your equipment will eventually exhaust all factory applied lubrications and sealants. Your equipment will lose precision as well as accuracy. Some parts are also liable to become worn and may lose their functionality. After extended storage periods, your equipment may have become sedentary. Your light traps, circuitry, focusing systems may also have suffered from erosion.

For a maintenance repair we remove the top, bottom, and rear covers, clean up all circuitry, switches and the transport assembly, apply appropriate sealants and lubrications, replace worn light traps, and precisely test your equipment. It is highly recommended that you check your camera before a vacation or important photo shoot.

What does a complete overhaul mean?
For a compete overhaul, your entire camera will be taken apart. All parts will be inspected, worn parts replaced or restored, and the camera will be cleaned and adjusted to good working order.

Is my camera worth the cost of its repair?
We won't be able to tell you this until we've seen it. Just come in for a free consultation and we will be happy to give you an estimate.
